Product notes
How things behave, and where the limits are
Onscryn is still growing, and some capabilities depend on your plan or are at an early stage. These notes say plainly what to expect. They sit alongside our Terms of Service and security overview, and are the place to look before you rely on a feature.
Features
Streaming
- Single-application streaming is built for classic Windows interfaces. Apps that draw with the GPU (Chromium and Electron apps, WPF, UWP) can render poorly in that mode; stream them as a full desktop instead.
- Launch time depends on whether a warm slot is available. A cold start takes noticeably longer.
AI CopilotPreview
- The Copilot is labelled Preview in the product.
- It can only act on controls that appear in the UI tree. Applications that don't expose their controls limit what it can do.
- It works through the interface one step at a time, so it's slower than an API. For repeat work, save the run as a workflow.
Workflows
- Workflows drive the application's interface, so they run at its speed and can need updating if its screens change.
- Each workflow targets a specific application in your catalog.
RecordingsBeta
- Recordings are labelled Beta in the product.
- Whether a session is recorded is decided when it launches; changing the setting affects new sessions.
Data protection
- Policy is read when a session launches. A change applies to new sessions, not to ones already running.
- Clipboard and file transfer default to on, and the watermark defaults to off, until you change them.
Team & access
- Single sign-on is plan-dependent. We'll map the capabilities to what you need in the demo.
- Roles and domain rules are managed by owners and admins in Settings and Members.
White-label & domains
- Branding and custom domains are plan-dependent.
- Branding changes reach your custom domain within about a minute. DNS changes on your side can take longer to propagate; Onscryn keeps re-checking.
Hosts & infrastructure
- Hosts are Windows machines running the Onscryn agent.
- If your hosts are at capacity, sessions can fall back to the shared pool. Talk to us if your data must stay on your own hosts.
- Dedicated hosts, compute classes and the warm pool are plan-dependent. Connecting your own AWS account to provision hosts is at an early stage; enrolling hosts you've set up is the established path.
Admin & insights
- Admin views are for admins. Members see their own sessions and activity.
- The audit log is plan-dependent.
Solutions
Legacy & ERP apps
- You don't change the application. If it runs on Windows it's a candidate, but we'd rather prove it on yours. Custom-drawn controls can behave differently, which is exactly what a demo is for.
- Windows itself and your own software carry licences. That's worth settling early, and we'll walk through it with you.
- Recording and the Copilot are still maturing. We label them as such on the feature pages.
VDI alternative
- We won't promise that Windows licensing disappears. Hosting Windows for users still carries licensing obligations, which depend on your agreements with Microsoft. We'll go through it with you rather than gloss over it.
- Sessions are isolated by a dedicated Windows user account per session on a shared host. That is a different model from a virtual machine per user. The security page explains it in plain terms.
- Cold launches can take around a minute. The warm pool, which keeps sessions ready, is plan-dependent.
Secure remote access
- The browser receives rendered pixels. Files and clipboard cross only if your policy allows it. A watermark deters photos of the screen; it can't stop someone taking one.
- We list the controls we have and how they work, and we don't claim certifications we don't hold. Reviewing us for procurement? The security page lays it out.
- Data-loss controls, SSO and the audit log are plan-dependent.
