Clipboard, file transfer and watermark
4 min read
A streamed session shows pixels, but people can still try to move data out through the clipboard or a file transfer. These controls decide whether they can, and they are enforced by the broker that carries the stream, so a user cannot switch them back on from the browser.
What you can set
Three controls, each separate:
- Clipboard: allow or block copy and paste between the user's device and the session.
- File transfer: allow or block files moving in or out.
- Watermark: draw the viewer's email and the time across the stream.
Where to set them
Set an organization-wide default in Settings, where Clipboard, File transfer and Watermark appear as policy switches. An application can also set its own, so a sensitive app can be stricter than the rest. The policy covers app sessions and full-desktop sessions alike.
Defaults
Clipboard and file transfer default to on, and the watermark defaults to off, until you change them. For anything sensitive, change them before you invite more people.
When it takes effect
Policy is read when a session launches. A change applies to new sessions, not to ones already running, so ask people to relaunch if you tighten a rule.
Why the watermark is in the pixels
The watermark is drawn into the frames the broker sends, not layered over them in the page. A photo of the screen carries it too, and removing it in the browser does nothing.
